At Clayton Academy, our long-range goals are to teach our children command of basic skills, instill good work habits, and promote self-esteem in doing so.
Curriculum
Language Arts- Our programs seek to integrate all language skills into the spectrum of everyday life. Phonetic awareness and word decoding skills are used to develop reading acquisition. Developing a strong foundation in reading, written skills, and an appreciation of literature will nurture the potential of each individual child.
Mathematics- We shape our program to teach students the important problem-solving skills needed in real-life situations. Students at all levels are taught basic concepts which include computation, logics, and comparisons.
Science- A variety of educational options are used to implement our science programs which include hands-on experiments, guest lectures, and field trips.
Social Science- Subjects woven into global themes include: Geography. History, Literature, Economics, and Ecology.
Social Skills- Students will develop a strong sense of respect for themselves and others in the classroom, within the school and outside in the community. They will also recognize individual differences, conversational skills, general manners, friendships, conflict resolution and learning how to handle emotions appropriately.
Computer Skills- Our media classroom enables students to learn operational skills and encourages the use of computers in all phases of our curriculum.
Spanish- The program’s design allows for students to become exposed to a foreign language. The curriculum utilizes a variety of learning style techniques and opportunities i.e. auditory, visual and tactile to enrich a child’s knowledge of the Spanish Culture.
Physical Education- Enjoyment of physical activity is promoted at every level through the development of fundamental skills and positive attitudes. A “sensory” rich environment is incorporated throughout the Physical education curriculum.
Art- Multiple opportunities are available for hands on, multi-sensory experiences with tangible outcomes while incorporating a set curriculum.
Music Appreciation- A kinesthetic approach to learning, understanding, and appreciating how music affects the students’ feelings and emotions.
Regular homework is required to complement classroom study and foster independent work habits.
